Autumn 2020 Newsletter

  • Best Plot

Because of the pandemic judging this year was done by Sue and myself using the same criteria as before, that being crop range, crop quality, workmanship and overall impression. If you want to know your overall score please send me an email. It’s worth noting that 33 plot holders scored 33 or above so well done all of you (no the chair wasn’t one of them!)

The winner by one point was Ray Wright on plot 25 who scored 39 out of a possible 40. Equal second on 38 points were Ken Gill on plots 9 and 10 and Richard Lawson on Plot 40.

Most Improved Plot was, plot 67 Jonny & Carrie Mills. Special mentions and certificates to 13nb Dawn Stephenson, 11W Ruth Webster and plot 30 John Mitchell.

  • Marrow Competition

The weigh in will be on Sunday 20th starting at 10 am. Because of the new COVID 6 rule we will not be able to have a mass weigh in. We will visit each competitors plot and weigh on site with just the competitor and the two judges. We will announce the winner at the end of that process. If you have a marrow to enter make sure you let us know either in person or email to Mark or Sue.

  • Seeds

Whilst there won’t be a Pie Peas and Seeds meeting this year we are still able to obtain a discount from Fothergill’s as shown in the flyer from Mr. Fothergill’s which you can access via the website(Click HERE)

I will let members know as soon as the catalogues arrive, and arrange a COVID compliant means for you to collect them.

  • Dogs on Plots

As you will be aware dogs are only allowed on plots if kept on a lead. This is to prevent damage to crops but also is a health and safety issue. Many of our fellow plot holders are advanced in years and might easily be knocked  over by a friendly or excited dog. Some are quite frail or have specific medical conditions for which  a dog scratch or dog saliva , however unintentional, could represent a significant danger. Please keep this in mind when you bring your animals onto the site.
